At The Salvation Army Salisbury Corps Church, we believe that music is one of God’s greatest gifts. Music has the power to inspire, encourage, teach, and lead people into worship. More importantly, music can be used as a powerful tool to share the message of Jesus Christ with others.
Our School of Music exists to help children and young people discover, develop, and dedicate their God-given talents for God’s glory. Whether a child is interested in singing, playing an instrument, drama, dance, creative arts, or worship leadership, our program provides opportunities to learn, grow, and serve.
Through weekly instruction, special rehearsals, divisional events, and summer music opportunities, students receive training from experienced Christian leaders who are passionate about helping the next generation develop their gifts while growing in their faith.

The School of Music is offered as part of our Sally Kids program and serves as one of the elective opportunities available throughout the year
Weekly School of Music
Each week, children have the opportunity to learn new skills, participate in rehearsals, develop musical abilities, and gain confidence in using their talents. From beginners to more advanced students, our leaders work alongside each child to encourage growth, improvement, and a love for music and the arts.
Occasionally, additional rehearsals may be scheduled to prepare for special performances, worship services, seasonal programs, and community presentations.
Our goal is not simply to teach music—we want to help young people understand that their gifts can be used to worship God and serve others.
Learning From Skilled Christian Leaders
One of the greatest strengths of our School of Music is the dedicated team of leaders and instructors who invest their time and knowledge into the lives of our students.
These leaders provide encouragement, instruction, mentorship, and opportunities for students to discover their potential. Through positive relationships and hands-on learning experiences, students gain confidence while developing skills that will benefit them for years to come.
Divisional School for the Arts (DSA)
As students grow and develop, they have the opportunity to participate in one of The Salvation Army’s most exciting programs—the Divisional School for the Arts, commonly known as DSA.
Several times throughout the year, students travel to Camp Walter Johnson for a Friday and Saturday weekend of learning, fellowship, worship, and creative arts training. DSA brings together young people from across North and South Carolina who share a passion for music, worship, and the arts.
Under the leadership of our Divisional Music Director, Assistant Divisional Music Director, and Divisional Creative Arts Director, students receive instruction from talented teachers and program staff who are committed to helping them grow both artistically and spiritually.

More Than Classes
DSA is about much more than learning skills.
Throughout the weekend, students build friendships with young people from across the division who share similar interests and faith experiences. These relationships often become lifelong friendships that continue through youth events, music programs, summer camp, and beyond.
Friday evenings often include fellowship activities, refreshments, games, and opportunities for students to connect with one another in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
Students may also participate in friendly competitions, including solo contests and performance opportunities that encourage excellence and provide cash awards and recognition for outstanding achievement.
Conservatory School of Music
For students who desire a deeper level of musical and creative arts training, The Salvation Army offers the Conservatory School of Music during the summer months.
Held at Camp Walter Johnson, Conservatory is a five-week intensive training program designed for students who demonstrate commitment, growth, and a desire to further develop their gifts.
Students who qualify for Conservatory receive advanced instruction in music, worship leadership, creative arts, and performance while enjoying fellowship with friends from across the division.
Conservatory combines serious musical study with spiritual growth, leadership development, worship experiences, and unforgettable friendships. Many students consider Conservatory one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives.
